Bepi  Zac a pioneer of Passo di San Pellegrino

Bepi Zac

Bepi Zac has been a very well known and loved person. Since when he was a young child he was driven by a strong passion for the mountain and when he had to go from Soraga to cut hay at Passo di San Pellegrino, he fell in love with the area of “Miralago” and conceived the dream of constructing a hut right on that lake. After marrying Maria he succeeded with great sacrifice to build his hut and started off on his adventure at the expense of renouncing to many things and great efforts.

It was in the early sixties, there were neither light nor water and something had to be done.

Then in winter, difficulties increased, snow fell abundantly and Bepi had to clean the road to keep it open and send his four children to school.

His dedication was awarded with the arrival of the first tourists whom he showed around as a guide: Be

Rifugio Passo delle Selle

pi was actually a recognised mountain guide and Alpine rescue worker. He got involved several times to save lives and help anyone in difficulties on the mountain.

Having launched the Miralago Hut, he then concentrated on building another small Hut at Passo Delle Selle which was a true and real camp and departure base for a well laid out road. He thus also started restructuring a mountain pathway which he recalls was called: “Via Ferrata Bepi Zac”.

Bepi Zac passed away at the young age of 46. Miralago Hut, which has been refurbished and remodernised, is now run by his son Ivano and by his wife.
